CMS 10.6 Editing Embedded Component Content Units

Users can make changes to embedded component content unit placement blocks in Page Builder presentations.

For embedded component content units, editing options include:

  • Edit embedded component fields. Change the field values of the currently embedded component unit.
  • Save embedded component to a new xID. Save the embedded component unit as a separate component item within Site > Site Tree. This option assigns a new xID to the component, and the content unit block references the component item rather than embedding the content.
  • Clear content. Remove the current content from the content unit block. This option maintains the current block and reverts the content unit to an empty state. Users can use this option to replace the embedded content with an existing component item xID or presentation component content unit.

See CMS 10.6 Building Page Builder Presentations for details about embedded content vs. referenced content.

To edit an embedded content unit placement:
  1. Navigate to Site > Site Tree.
  2. Select the page with the Page Builder presentation.
  3. Check out the page, and select the Design tab.
The Design tab workspace and accordion menu displays.
  4. Choose one of the following steps to access the header toolbar of the content unit block you want to edit via the Design tab workspace.
    Tip
The content unit header displays the title of the content unit and resides below the parent Column header.
    • Select the header of the content unit via the Design tab workspace.

The content unit displays as selected (i.e., the header fill color changes to blue), and the toolbar displays in the content unit header.

      Embedded Content Unit

    • Hover your mouse over the header of the content unit via the Design tab workspace.

The toolbar displays in the content unit header.

  5. Choose the step that suits your needs.
    Note

    • Edit the embedded component fields via the Edit this field In-Context.
      1. Select the Edit in Field icon Edit in Field Icon in the content unit header toolbar.

      3. Select Save > Save to register your changes.
    • Convert the embedded component content to a referenced component item with a new xID.
      1. Select Save > Save new component in the content unit header toolbar.

        Important
If the current embedded content was originally converted from existing referenced content, then the Component Sharing dialog displays. If this dialog displays, select Create new.
The Select parent page for component sharing dialog displays.

Select Parent Page for Component Sharing Dialog

      2. Search for and select a parent folder, page, or component based on the item's friendly name or xID in the provided field.

This content item serves as the parent of the new component xID.

      3. Click Select.

The content unembeds and converts to the new referenced component item. Page Builder creates the component under the selected parent in Site > Tree, and the content unit block references the new component's xID.

      4. Select Save in the Design tab toolbar to save the new component reference.

      5. Optional: See CMS 10.6 Editing Existing Component Content Units for details to make changes to existing component item references.

    • Revert the embedded component content to a referenced component item with an existing xID. Choose one of the following steps.

These options are only available if the current embedded content was originally converted from existing referenced content.

      • To maintain changes made within the embedded content after conversion, select Save > Save new component in the content unit header toolbar, and select Update original in the Component Sharing dialog that displays.

        Update Original

      • To revert to the original referenced content and discard the current embedded content changes, select Revert > Revert to original.
        Warning
If you select this option, the system deletes all content changes not included in the currently existing referenced content.

The content unembeds and converts to the existing referenced component item. The Page Builder content unit block references the existing component's xID.

    • Clear the content from the content unit placement.
      Tip
You can use this option to replace the embedded content with an existing component item xID or presentation component content unit.
      1. Select Revert > Clear Content.

Page Builder clears the content from the content unit placement, and the Add Content option displays in the unit block.

      2. Optional: Select the Add Content option in the content unit block to add an existing component item or component content unit.

        Add Content

The Add Tray dialog displays. See CMS 10.6 Add Tray Dialog for details to search for existing component items and component content units in the dialog.

  6. Select Save in the Design tab toolbar to save your content unit changes in the Page Builder presentation.
    Warning
Always save after making Page Builder presentation changes. Otherwise, the system will not preserve your new changes.
