In my Ingeniux CMS 10.5 instance, the Publish dialog contains a tab for Publishing Targets and a tab for Publishing Profiles. What’s the difference between a publishing target and a publishing profile?

Publish Dialog

Publishing Targets

Ingeniux CMS users with permissions can publish content items and asset items to publishing targets. These targets serve as destinations for websites, staging sites, or other endpoint URLs.

When users execute publishes, the CMS sends content items and asset items marked for publish to the specified publishing target(s).

Administrators create and manage publishing targets in Administration > Publishing System > Publishing Targets. For each publishing target, administrators provide the folder that will contain the published files and provide a name to associate with the published files. Administrators can also choose whether the CMS will transform items published to the target for specific user agents.

See Publishing Targets for details.

Publishing Profiles

Users with permissions can select publishing profiles to check in content items and asset items to multiple publishing targets at the same time.

When users with permissions publish content items and asset items in CMS 10.5, users can also select these profiles to publish the items to multiple publishing targets at the same time.

Administrators create and manage publishing profiles in Administration > Publishing System > Publishing Profiles. For each publishing profile, administrators select publishing targets to include, and they determine which user groups have permissions to use the profile.

See Publishing Profiles for details.
