Technical Specification

Learn how a technical specification document defines the functionality of schemas in the site.

A technical specification document is where site managers and business analysts define how content is edited, updated, and managed in the CMS. This tutorial demonstrates how a "Spec" defines the functionality of schemas in the site.

To get started with your specification, you will need the markup for the website. It's always best to start with markup rather than flat images of a site, so you can see interaction points (like roll-over effects and slideshow changes) that you might want to implement for. Download a zip of the markup here.

Here is a link to the specification template. Use this if you want to try writing your own specification document, then follow it as you implement your site. This methodology may be the best way to retain what is taught in this series, but will come with pitfalls if you don't fully finish or follow your specification document.

If you wish to practice following a specification document - or compare your own to the one in this video - you can download the spec used in the video here.
