Pasting Content as Text

The Paste as text option strips formatting brought over from a word processor when you paste content into the XHTML editor. If you view this text in the source code after its placement, you find it unformatted and wrapped in the paragraph tag(s) without its original formatting.

Before using Paste as text, ensure your administrator activates the Paste plugin. See Activating the Paste Plugin for details.

To paste formatted content as plain text:
  1. Navigate to Site > Site Tree.
  2. Select a page containing the XHTML editor in the Site Tree.
  3. Copy word-processed content with formatting that you want to remove when you paste into the XHTML Editor.
  4. Select Paste as text from the Edit drop-down menu in the XHTML editor.
    The following message displays:
Paste is now in plain text mode. Contents will now be pasted as plain text until you toggle this option off.
A checkmark displays next to the Paste as text option in the Edit drop-down menu.

    • Use the Paste keyboard shortcut. (For Windows, use Ctrl+V. For Mac, use Command+V.) The pasted content displays in the XHTML field editor, formatted with HTML-equivalent tags and without its original formatting.
      Note
If you use a Windows operating system and need information about keyboard shortcuts, see Windows Keyboard Shortcuts. For Mac users, see Mac Keyboard Shortcuts.
    • Select Paste in the XHTML editor's Edit drop-down menu. The pasted content displays in the XHTML field editor, formatted with HTML-equivalent tags and without its original formatting.
      Warning
Some browsers adhere to a security restriction that prevents you from using the built-in paste function in the XHTML Editor. If your browser has this restriction, a message such as the following one displays after you attempt to paste via Edit > Paste:
Your browser doesn't support direct access to the clipboard. Please use the Ctrl+X/C/V keyboard shortcuts instead.
