Copying Component Content Units

Prerequisites: See Page Builder Prerequisites for details.

You may find that an existing component content unit contains similarities to one that you plan to build. Rather than creating a new content unit, you can copy an existing one as a starting point for the new one.

To copy a component content unit:

  1. Navigate to Administration > Presentation Content Units.
    The Management screen displays.
  2. Select the Component Content Units tab.
  3. Select the component content unit that will serve as the base for the new one in the Component Content Units tab.
  4. Choose one of the following steps.
    • Select Copy in the Actions menu.

      Copy Component Content Unit

    • Select Edit in the Actions menu, and select Make Copy via the Content Unit Actions menu that displays in the Create/Edit screen.

Make Copy of Current Component Content Unit

The Create/Edit screen opens a New Content Unit area that populates with the schema fields of the selected component content unit.
    Note
The CMS copies all content unit fields except for the Name, Field Name, and image thumbnail.

  5. Provide a unique Name and Field Name value for the new component content unit.
  6. Complete the process of creating the content unit. See Creating Component Content Units for details about fields and customizations for the new content unit.
    Additional Information

You may plan to reuse the schema of the copied component content unit or to apply a different component schema to the unit. Keep in mind that, while you can modify the attributes of some schemas (such as the default value of the element), the system prevents you from adding and removing elements via Administration > Presentation Content Units.

Access the component content unit's referenced component schema directly in Administration > Schema Designer to edit elements or modify read-only attributes. See Editing Component Schemas for details.
