Page Creation Rules

Prerequisites:
  • Page creation rules (PCRs) must exist. See Creating PCRs for details.
  • The group or user must have permissions access the content item(s) and PCRs. See Creating Groups for details.

The Page Creation Rules properties tab gives you control over which page creation rules (PCRs) apply to pages, components, or folders in the CMS. To enable a PCR for content creation, you must first associate it with a content item in the Site Tree. This association ensures that when you create an item using a PCR, the CMS recognizes permitted locations for the new item.

PCR settings are inherited by descendant content items by default, streamlining page rule management across your site. Within this tab, you can choose to retain inherited PCR settings or override them for greater flexibility. If you opt not to inherit, you can add or remove PCRs as needed for the individual content item.

To manage PCR associations for a content item:
  1. Navigate to Site > Site Tree.
  2. Select the page, component, or folder in the Site Tree.
  3. Click the Properties tab, then click Page Creation Rules in the Options menu.
  4. Choose whether to inherit page creation rules from the parent content item:
    • Select the Inherit page creation rules from parent page checkbox to retain PCR settings from the parent, then confirm your change in the confirmation dialog.

      Page PCR Configuration

If you choose this option, navigate to the parent item's Page Creation Rules tab to modify the PCR settings.

    • Clear the checkbox to choose PCR settings for the content item, irrespective of the parent's settings, then confirm your change in the confirmation dialog.

The Remove and Add buttons display.

  5. Optional: To add a PCR, complete the following steps:
    1. Click Add.

      Page Creation Rules Properties

    2. Choose the page creation rule from the dialog, then click OK.
      Tip
Press CTRL > Shift > Click or CTRL > Click to select multiple PCRs.
    3. Select the corresponding checkbox in the Parent column to designate the PCR as a parent.

If selected, users with permissions can only use the PCR with the current content item. If cleared, users with permissions can use the PCR with the current content item and applicable descendants.

  6. Optional: To remove a PCR, select the content item from the list, then click Remove.

Note
Creating a PCR will not automatically allow an assigned user group to use it. Users must additionally have the appropriate security permissions to access the the part of the Site Tree where the PCR is assigned.
