A publishing target must be set up before publishes can execute. A publishing target defines the physical directory to which XML pages are published and determines if XMLcontent is transformed to HTML upon publication.

Publishing targets can be used to exclude portions of a site from a full publish. This is useful if different organizational units, represented by different sections in the Site Tree and Assets Tree, have asynchronous publishing schedules.

Each publishing target begins at its root page xID. You can publish the following content to respective publishing targets:

  • Its child nodes, marked for publish.
  • Its sibling nodes, marked for publish.
  • Dependent nodes elsewhere in the Site Tree (e.g., navigations).
