Alias Deletion
Delete aliases from the Site Tree using the deletion options from either the DITA Map Manager, the Site Tree, the context menu, the Assets Manager.
Warning
The CMS permanently deletes DITA aliases without moving them to the recycle
folder. Deleted aliases cannot be recovered.
How Deletion Works
Key behaviors when deleting aliases include:
- When recycling or delete the parent page, component, or folder in the Site Tree, the CMS deletes their descendant alias structures.
- When recycling or deleting DITA assets in the Asset Tree, the CMS deletes their corresponding aliases.
- When you delete aliases directly, the CMS keeps the corresponding DITA assets intact. However, recycling or deleting DITA assets removes all associated alias structures from the Site Tree.
- You cannot delete individual aliases within an alias structure. Alias structures operate
as single units.
To delete any alias within a structure, you must delete the entire structure from the root alias. For example, if the Site Tree contains an alias structure based on a DITA map, you cannot delete individual aliases within that structure—you must delete the entire alias structure.
Note
The CMS displays a confirmation dialog when you delete DITA assets corresponding with
aliases or Site Tree content item parents of aliases. This dialog
indicates that all associated aliases will be deleted.
Deletion Options
Delete aliases from one of these three locations in the CMS:
- Manage Aliases tab of DITA maps in .
- Context menu of the root alias in the Site Tree.
- tab of DITA assets in the Assets Manager.
