Disabled Named Pipes and TCP/IP


Condition

Cannot connect to SQL Server through Named Pipes protocol and TCP/IP.

Cause

Authentication options are not set properly.

Remedy

  1. Open SQL Server Management Studio.
  2. Right-click the SQL Server instance name the Object Explorer pane.
    This is the top-level node in the Object Explorer pane.
  3. Select Properties.
    The Server Properties dialog opens.
  4. In the Server Properties dialog, select Security.
  5. In the server authentication options, select SQL Server and Windows Authentication mode.
