CMS 10.6 Adding Content Units

Prerequisites:

Content units serve as instances of structured content (i.e., building blocks) that users can only add to page layouts. Use field or component content units to add content to your presentation. By default, Page Builder displays pre-made form field and component units and displays custom content units created by administrators.

Content units come in two varieties:

Field content unit

A wrapper around a basic field (i.e., element) type. These can be text, images, links—any kind of element type. Each field content unit has a unique name, default values, and a layout associated with it. In this way, content units of the same element type can have different layouts.

See Field Content Units for details.

Component content unit

A wrapper around a complete, component-based schema that can contain multiple field content units.

See Component Content Units for details.

To add a content unit to a column in the Page Builder presentation:
  1. Expand the Design accordion menu option in the Design tab.
    The Row Layouts section displays.
  2. Select the Content section in the Design accordion pane.
A list of field and component content units displays.

    Content Units List

  3. Choose the content unit to add to the column in the Page Builder presentation. You can use the following options to filter and search for content units.
    Additional Information

If individual content units display the strikethrough recycle icon One-Time Use Icon in the list, then you can only add one instance of the content unit to the presentation. If content units don't display the strikethrough recycle icon, then you can reuse those content items without limits in the Page Builder presentation. See Creating Field Units and Creating Component Units for details about setting reusable content units.
