CMS 10.6 Deleting Presentation Content Unit Placements

Users can delete presentation content unit blocks from their parent columns in the Page Builder presentation. When users delete content units, they can choose to maintain or remove the mapped content fields.

Warning
Deleted embedded content cannot be recovered.

When users delete content unit blocks that contain pre-existing component presentation content units or component items, Page Builder only deletes the content placement from the presentation. Placement deletions do not affect the following:

  • the referenced component item xID from Site > Site Tree.
  • the referenced component content unit or the unit's associated views from Administration > Presentation Content Units.
Tip
Users can remove component content from presentation content units instead of deleting the entire block. For referenced component content, select Save > Clear content. For embedded component content, select Revert > Clear content.
To delete a content unit placement from the Page Builder presentation:
  1. Navigate to Site > Site Tree.
  2. Select the page with the Page Builder presentation.
  3. Check out the page, and select the Design tab.
The Design tab workspace and accordion menu displays.
  4. Choose one of the following steps.
    Tip
The content unit header displays the title of the unit and resides directly below the parent Column header.
    • Delete the content unit placement via the unit header toolbar.
      1. Select or hover your mouse over the header of the content unit to delete in the presentation canvas grid via the Design tab workspace.

The toolbar displays in the content unit header. If you select the header, then the content unit displays as selected (i.e., the header fill color changes to blue).

      2. Select the Delete (trash) icon Delete Icon in the header toolbar.
        Note
If the Delete (trash) doesn't initially display, then select the Show Actions vertical ellipses (...) icon to access the toolbar options.
    • Delete the content unit via drag and drop.
      1. Expand Design in the accordion menu.
      2. Press and drag the move content icon handle Move Content Icon Handle in the header of the content unit via the Design tab workspace.

        The content unit becomes movable.

      3. Drag and hover the content unit over the Design section in the accordion menu pane, and drop the unit.
The Removing Content Unit Placements from Presentation dialog displays.

  5. Choose one of the following steps.
    Note
The presentation fields for the current site page have versions for different publishing targets. Mapped fields indicate content units associated the current page presentation based on respective publishing targets.
    • Select Keep Mapped Fields (recommended). This option maintains content units attached to other publishing targets not selected for deletion within the current page presentation. If you keep mapped fields, the units remain within the schema of the current individual site page.
    • Select Remove Mapped Fields. This option permanently deletes all unit placements and, if applicable, mapped fields from all publishing targets associated with the current page presentation. If you remove mapped fields, the system omits the fields from the schema of the current individual site page.

      Mapped fields removal is optional.

Page Builder applies your mapped field choice, deleting the presentation content unit block and contained content.
  6. Select Save in the Design tab toolbar to save your content unit changes in the Page Builder presentation.
    Warning
Always save after making Page Builder presentation changes. Otherwise, the system will not preserve your new changes.
