Prerequisites: The asset item must be a DITA map or bookmap.
Use the Output Management tab to set "fallback" options that prevent unintentional DITA-OT publishes on DITA items during site-wide CMS publishes. This tab only displays for DITA maps in the Assets Manager.
Preselect the output formats and DITAVALs the DITA-OT will use on individual DITA maps when site-wide publishes run. The next side-wide publish will apply the output management settings defined within this tab to the applicable DITA collection.
Important
The system's default publishing
mechanism requires sets of content to be published individually before they can be
included in full publishes. If DITA items have never been published, the CMS doesn't
process the individual content during publish.
- When you run an incremental DITA publish, know that any output format and DITAVAL options selected in the Configure DITA Publishing dialog will automatically carry over the Output Management tab.
However, if you choose to deselect an output format or DITAVAL option in the dialog and then proceed with an incremental publish, the deselected option will still remain selected in the Output Management tab.
For example, if you initially run an incremental DITA publish with the HTML5 output chosen in the Configure DITA Publishing dialog, then the HTML5 output will become selected in Output Management tab. If you later run another incremental DITA publish and opt to remove the HTML5 output selection, then the HTML5 output will still remain selected in the Output Management tab.
See Output Management Overview for additional details about managing outputs for individual DITA maps. See Publishing Types for details about site-wide publishes.
To manage output formats for DITA post-publish processing settings:
- Navigate to .
- Click the DITA map, then click the tab.
Post-publish process settings display, including options for output formats and conditional processing.

- Select or clear output formats in the Output Formats list.
You can select the checkbox directly to the left of the Output Formats list title to select all available output targets.
Note
Available options are based on the output formats administrators selected in . For top-level maps, the DITA publishing pipeline always requires the normalized DITA output format to be selected.
- Select or clear DITVAL options to include in the output via the DITAVAL Options column.
Only DITAVALs marked to the publishing target will display as available options.
However, if your DITA map contains references to particular DITAVALs (i.e., using <ditavalref>), those
DITAVALs will be selected automatically in this dialog, regardless of their publish
marking.
All chosen DITAVALs display in the
Selected DITAVAL Options column. When the next site-wide publish runs, the
DITA-OT publishing pipeline will use these DITAVALs to process the output content.
- If you include DITAVALs, select or clear the Skip output that excludes conditional processing checkbox.
Version Notes: CMS 10.6.492 vs. CMS 10.6.308–10.6.378
CMS 10.6.492: The Skip output set that excludes conditional
processing checkbox is unavailable in CMS 10.6.492. The CMS
automatically applies DITA publishing pipeline processing to the map, outputting the
normalized, conditionally processed rendition of the map and its dependencies to the
main normalized DITA root folder path. This output uses only DITAVALs referenced
directly within the map and not optional DITAVAL selections from the dialog.
When you apply optional DITAVALs through the dialog, the CMS outputs normalized,
conditionally processed content to unique DITAVAL paths for each selected optional
DITAVAL.
CMS 10.6.308–10.6.378: By default, the Skip output set that
excludes conditional processing checkbox is selected.
When you select this checkbox, the following occurs:
- The CMS applies DITA publishing pipeline processing to the map, outputting
normalized, conditionally processed content to unique DITAVAL paths in the
published output folder.
- Additionally, the map and its dependencies are published the main DITA root path
in the published folder without undergoing DITA publishing pipeline processing.
This output is not normalized or conditionally processed.
When you clear this checkbox, the following occurs:
- The CMS applies DITA publishing pipeline processing to the map, outputting the
normalized conditionally processed content to unique DITAVAL paths in the
published folder.
- The DITA publishing pipeline also outputs a normalized, conditionally processed
rendition of the map and its dependencies to the main DITA root folder path in the
published folder. This rendition is based solely on the DITAVALs referenced
directly within the map and not any other DITAVAL options selected in the
dialog.
Task Troubleshooting: After a full publish, the CMS auto-adds direct DITAVAL dependencies to the
selected options that were cleared before. You may need the adjust the Selected
DITAVAL Options after publish.
