Page Creation Rule Contexts

Prerequisites:
  • Page creation rules (PCRs) must exist. See Creating PCRs for details.
  • The group or user must have permissions access the content item(s) and PCRs. See Creating Groups for details.

Before users can access page creation rules (PCRs), each PCR has to associate with a Site Tree node. This association tells the PCR where to place new pages in the Site Tree.

To associate a PCR with a node in the Site Tree:
  1. Navigate to Site > Site Tree.
  2. Choose one of the following steps:
    • Access Page Creation Rules settings via the Site toolbar.
      1. Open the content item and click the Properties tab in the Site pane.
      2. Click Page Creation Rules in the Options menu.

    • Access Page Creation Rules settings via the Site Tree context menu.
      1. Right-click the content item in the Site Tree. Select Page Properties. The Page Properties dialog displays.
      2. Click the Page Creation Rules tab.

  3. Choose one of the following steps:
    • Select the Inherit page creation rules from parent page checkbox.
      Additional Information
The CMS selects the checkbox by default. If selected, the content item uses its parent's PCR settings. Repeat the steps above to access the parent item's PCR settings.

Administrators may have associated the parent page with PCRs via Administration > Page Creation Rules.

    • Clear the Inherit security settings from parent page checkbox and manage PCRs. Click OK in the confirmation dialog.
      Additional Information
If cleared, the content item uses its own PCR settings rather than its parent PCR settings.

The checkbox clears by default if the content item has directly associated PCRs. Children of the content item inherit the PCRs by default.

      1. Click Add. The Select Page Creation Rules dialog displays.
      2. Select PCRs to add. Use CTRL+Click to multi-select PCRs.

        Select Page Creation Rules

      3. Click OK. The selections display in the list.

        Parent Checkbox

      4. Select or clear the Parent checkbox.
        Additional Information
If selected, users with permissions can only use the PCR in the current content item. If cleared, users with permissions can use the PCR in the current content item and applicable descendants.
  4. Click Save or OK.
    Important
Before users can access the PCR for content creation, users require PCR permissions and permissions to access the Site Tree node structure where you assigned the PCR. See Creating Groups for details to grant permissions.
