Checking DITA Temp Folders

Prerequisites:

System administrators must enable debug mode (args.debug) before users run the DITA-OT publish. See Running DITA Debug Mode for details.

Important
Without debug mode, the DITA-OT automatically deletes the DITA temp folder contents after the transformation process runs. Users can only download DITA temp folders after the associated DITA-OT publish runs with debug mode enabled.

Review the DITA temp folder for discrepancies within the temporary files that may relate to the issue. Check for files that did not generate in the temp folder, files that generated in the temp folder but the not in the final output, missing content within files, etc. This information may help with issue diagnosis.

Note
Administrators can configure DITA Advanced Options to manage the maximum amount of DITA output temp folders that the CMS stores.

To access a DITA temp folder:

  1. Navigate to Administration > Publishing Monitor.
  2. Select the Show DITA Logs button in the Recently Completed section of Publishing Monitor to access the publish log for the most recently executed DITA-OT publish or preview.

Post Processing Status Console Dialog > Current Tab

The Logs tab of the Post Processing Status Console dialog displays.
  3. Review the relevant publish or preview entry, and note if the Has Errors column indicates conflicts.
    Important
The Has Errors column only indicates conflicts when the DITA-OT transformation process encounters a fatal error that halts the entire process.
  4. If a temp folder is available, select the Download Temp icon associated with your DITA-OT publish or preview.

Post Processing Status Console Dialog > Current Tab

The system downloads the .zip file of DITA temp content to your local machine.
    Tip
System administrators can directly access the DITA publish temp folder content in [Drive]:[path-to-cms-root-folder]\App_Data\DitaTemp and access the DITA preview temp folder content in [Drive]:[path-to-cms-root-folder]\App_Data\DitaPreviewTemp.
  5. Review the DITA temp folder contents, and note discrepancies that may indicate errors.

Next Steps:

After noting DITA temp file generation results, return to the appropriate troubleshooting topic to continue diagnosing your issue.
