Read-Only Mode of Utility Trees

You may find it convenient to use the read-only mode of utility trees, which is accessible from the Utility Bar, to accomplish mass actions, quickly. For example, tagging pages or assets with taxonomy tags can be time-consuming if you were to open and tag each page or asset, individually. The following steps demonstrate how to assign multiple assets (or pages) to a common taxonomy category via utility trees.

To associate multiple assets with a taxonomy category:
  1. Navigate to Administration > Taxonomy. The Taxonomy Tree displays in the main view area.
  2. Click the category that will be configured in the Taxonomy Tree.
  3. Select its Associations tab.
  4. Click the Asset Tree icon Assets Tree Icon in the Utility Bar. The Assets Tree opens in the Navigation pane. Note: Utility trees are read-only (dimmed) in the Navigation pane - i.e., you cannot rename an asset from this location - to ensure that no inadvertent changes are made while performing a mass-action task.

    Tip
You may find it helpful to pin utility trees to the Navigation pane while you are setting up the UI for mass-action tasks. In this way, you can be assured that the pinned utility tree will remain open and available.
  5. Once the Assets Tree and the Taxonomy view are side-by-side, select multiple assets from the Assets Tree that will be tagged (associated) with the specified category.
    Tip
If you access Ingeniux CMS from a Windows client, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift, then select the appropriate assets from their tree. If the assets you want to select are grouped in the tree (e.g., within a single branch), you can expand the parent nodes then click+hold+drag to select the set of assets (or pages).

  6. Drag the set of assets from the Assets Tree to the Associations tab. The selected assets populate the Associations tab.
The above steps only outline a particular scenario, but there are many other tasks that can be accomplished via the read-only utility trees:
  • From the Site Tree, you can associate taxonomy categories with pages or components.
  • From the Site Tree, you can drag xIDs into applicable elements within page or component forms.
  • From the Taxonomy Tree, you can drag category nodes into elements within page or component forms.
