Aliased DITA Types
Review how the CMS generates aliases for different DITA file types, including maps, topics, and conditional filters (DITAVALs). Aliases represent your DITA content structure in the Site Tree. Each alias receives its own unique DITA alias ID (da/[id]). They are incorporated into the site navigation and can be used to create URL-friendly paths that correspond with your DITA content.
See OASIS DITA Version 10.3 Specification: 2.1.3 File extensions for details about DITA file types.
- To use alias URL pathing, select the Enable alias URL pathing checkbox on the publishing target.
- DITA elements and attributes in your DITA assets may affect alias generation.
Maps (.ditamap)
The CMS generates alias structures for maps based on the hierarchical structure of references within the map, including topics and submaps.
In the Site Tree, document type information tags indicate the map type (for example, map or book map).
When published and replicated, the aliased map structure renders the normalized and styled DITA content on the DSS. With alias URL pathing enabled, aliases are included in the site navigation.
CMS 10.6.492: Choose whether to include DITA maps in alias URL entry generation. To include maps in alias URL entries, select the Include Alias Containers in URLs checkbox on the publishing target, or clear the checkbox to exclude them. When enabled, maps receive their own alias URL that users can access on the DSS.
CMS 10.6.308–10.6.378: DITA maps are excluded from alias URL entries.
Topics (.dita)
For a single DITA topic, the CMS generates an alias only for that topic. For a map, the CMS creates an alias structure that includes aliases for all topics referenced within the map.
In the Site Tree, document type information tags indicate the topic type (for example, concept, task, or reference).
When published and replicated, the aliased DITA structure renders on the DSS.
Filters (.ditaval)
CMS 10.6.492: Aliases are not generated for DITAVAL assets.
CMS 10.6.308–10.6.378: When creating an alias structure for a map, the CMS creates an alias for any referenced DITAVAL. With alias URL pathing enabled, aliased DITAVAL assets are not included in alias URL generation. In the Site Tree, document type information tags indicate DITAVAL.
